Funny, insensitive or offensive?

If you think about it, most jokes are at the expense of someone, either fictional or factual.

Ergo some jokes can be hurtful to some people. A lot may depend on the basis of a particular 'joke' and the degree of 'humour' exercised.

Humour is a matter of taste (or lack of it), I understand that. We cannot all have the same sense of humour, I understand that, too.

However, I must say it beggars my belief that certain jokes abound on here, considering the subject matter and possible timing of the posting. What ever happened to respect for our fellow human beings?

Furthermore, it can be a disappointment to see people posting what may be considered to be insensitive comments. One assumes that they are lucky not to have been affected personally by the 'joke'.

Good night all, sweet dreams.

My sentiments exactly, tffn. cupid04.xx sweet dreams to you also.
I find most offensive jokes funny but I do think people need to pick their audience wisely.
I think the comment would benefit from examples. But as said, it is all a matter of taste and one can not please everyone all the time.

I think this may be the 'joke' that is being referenced.
I agree with , ummmm.
Some jokes should never appear on theses pages because the joke teller can not control who reads it.

The joke in question is laughable but not in a funny way.
Ah more of a comment than a joke. And one I suspect to be incorrect too. Yes a bit insensitive. But I'm unsure I'd want such things censored though.
not uncensored, but thought about a bit more. Some posts i have looked at beggared belief, crude, rude. about people who cannot answer, fight back.
I think some people find it difficult to believe that people they like/liked can do such things and blank out any evidence that points to the contrary.
Or are very quick to judge people by their own standards.
I mean by jumping to the conclusion that these women of being motivated by money.
I can only assume Em10, Ann86 on the original thread etc etc etc that you have never been either mentally, physically or sexually abused by an adult and been absolutely powerless to do anything about it. The people who can't ' fight back' are the victims not the person who did these things to them because he knew he could and could get away with it.
I'm all for giving anyone a fair audience and I don't condemn Jimmy Savile out of hand, things clearly need proving properly, but the idea that these women should not have even spoken up or come forward ( and usually that idea is voiced by other women on here for some mystifying reason) is really deeply reprehensible and offensive.
I can only assume that if your daughter or grand daughter came to you in 5 years time and said ''( insert well known dead person's name here) has raped me, help me,'' you'll tell them to shut up and stop making things up and keep quiet as it's unfair on their attacker. Or is that not the case?
The fraudsters are very easy to spot in cases like the Jimmy Savile situation, their places, dates and times would not be able to be corroborated, the genuine ones would. For genuine victims of abuse money (compensation) would not help them get over what happened to them.
I go to the jokes section for a good laugh mostly first thing in the morning and last thing at night but I never post one with someone's name on it. I have always thought of it being libel unless you had some definite proof. I don't think I have ever posted any personal comment either (but I might be wrong here, my memory is not so good). In fact I tend to ignore what I do not like and only post comments if I find them funny. The best jokes are of a general nature and cover the whole of the human race not just one person. However, I have posted some in the past that have annoyed people mainly if religion comes into it somewhere. If you cannot laugh at yourself then you are a curiously humourless person.
