Nungate and mr Nungate (aka mis padres) would let me paint our windows black as a means to save little birds lives. We lost another one at tea time :(

I'll send Mr BM round. He is currently in "painting mode". I think he works on the basis of "if it doesn't move paint it, if it does move paint it til it stops". Our front door is neon yellow. He has just got his mother's antique table out and is doing something with that. If he touches my fekkin dresser he's a dead man.

Of course they will let you!
No, but they might let you put some nets up.
A friend, who has a similar problem, hung a glass picture of an owl on the window, it worked
What about putting some of these on the windows?

I'll need to keep an eye out for something as this is becoming way to much. I can't stand losing little birds like this
Question Author
they are quite a good idea Sandy thanks
Birds usually fly into windows if they can see through to a window the other side of the house or there is a reflection of the sky, so that there appears to be a clear flight path. Sometimes they fly into windows when they are trying to escape a predator such as a sparrow hawk (we had a robin do this), when they are looking for somewhere dark to hide. You could try adhesive decorations to make the glass more visible.

We have some of the Bird of Prey ones from the RSPB but they don't seem to work. My cat's often sit quite clearly in the window and even that doesn't help.
Net curtain?

I don't think mum would thank me for putting a net curtain up boxtops

Don't know if they'd let you....

I've painted somebody else's windows black (from the outside) overnight as a practical joke though... freaked them out the next morning :)
couldn't resist. Chuck!!!!!

Wouldnt drawing the normal curtain do the job? Ive read about this as a remedy somewhere.
i got some butterfly stickers and put them all over the windows. they seem to have donethe rick here. sorry i can't remember where i got them from. you could try acrylic paints on the glass. if you wanted to you could use stencils.
A few people round here just stick supermarket bags on the windows, Sainsbury's preferred as they are bright orange. The time when young birds are doing this is fairly short.
We have the same problem, I hate the little birds getting killed or stunned. I bought a multi coloured long twisted shiny decoration which hangs down and twirls around in the wind. They are meant for outside but I hung it on the curtain rail, it doesn't look too "naff" even though it was only from Poundland. They are similar to christmas decorations. We haven't had a goldfinch hit the patio doors since we put it up, so may get another couple of them to hang and space them across.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, I'm sure I have a nice thing that dangles (sounds wrong I know (dirty comments keep to yourselfs)) but its a load of bells wonder if mum would let me put it up. Its such a wee shame really, managed to save one once, tried to run to help it with a broken toe. Send mr BM round BM then your dresser might be safe :)
No black windows!
We can try some of the alternatives - no bells - can't disturb the neighbours
You can try Ann's suggestion of the coloured swirly thingys and maybe some of those toy windmill things outside the window - trip to Toys'r'us kiddo!
Question Author
it would be inside...it was that thing we had on the bar down the road...it never jingled....Toys'r'us isnt the same anymore :(
