Nungate and mr Nungate (aka mis padres) would let me paint our windows black as a means to save little birds lives. We lost another one at tea time :(

I'll send Mr BM round. He is currently in "painting mode". I think he works on the basis of "if it doesn't move paint it, if it does move paint it til it stops". Our front door is neon yellow. He has just got his mother's antique table out and is doing something with that. If he touches my fekkin dresser he's a dead man.

Birds usually fly into windows if they can see through to a window the other side of the house or there is a reflection of the sky, so that there appears to be a clear flight path. Sometimes they fly into windows when they are trying to escape a predator such as a sparrow hawk (we had a robin do this), when they are looking for somewhere dark to hide. You could try adhesive decorations to make the glass more visible.

We have the same problem, I hate the little birds getting killed or stunned. I bought a multi coloured long twisted shiny decoration which hangs down and twirls around in the wind. They are meant for outside but I hung it on the curtain rail, it doesn't look too "naff" even though it was only from Poundland. They are similar to christmas decorations. We haven't had a goldfinch hit the patio doors since we put it up, so may get another couple of them to hang and space them across.
Thanks for all the great suggestions, I'm sure I have a nice thing that dangles (sounds wrong I know (dirty comments keep to yourselfs)) but its a load of bells wonder if mum would let me put it up. Its such a wee shame really, managed to save one once, tried to run to help it with a broken toe. Send mr BM round BM then your dresser might be safe :)
