It is becoming more obvious that the FA are to strip John Terry of his England captaincy.

In view that he has not been found guilt yet, is this fair?

If so should Harry Redknapp also be sacked as Manager of Spurs, even though he has also not yet been found guilty?

To digress slightly to the Redknapp issue, not sure I'm getting the story right but as far as I can tell he's allegedly doged tax on £189,000, not dodged tax totalling that amount.

If that's correct it's paltry compared to what has thus far been spent on the cost of prosecuting this case.

Glad to hear any clarification on the amount mentioned, just in case I have misinterpreted it.

AOG - when Beckham was 'up & coming' all he got was taunts about the way he spoke - when he married Victoria, more taunts (though 'taunts' is an understatement). I have absolutely no doubt that Beckham would have suffered more than Terry has, on & off the pitch.

It gets more interesting when you consider Redknapp's name is being bandied about with regard to England team management once Capello's contract is up. After the scandals that have surrounded him in past years, shuld his name even be mentioned in the same sentence with "England Manager"?.

Being selected for the captaincy of England is an honour, not a job. As is being selected to play for England itself. It's a simple question: are there better candidates than John Terry for the captaincy of England? Yes, IMO.

No, because that IS a job and to lose your job before being found guilty would be unfair.

There is to be an "urgent Cabinet reshuffle", i.e. for the time being Huhne has lost his role as Energy Secretary, but will continue his job as an MP. Very much like John Terry losing his role as England captain, but continuing to play for Chelsea and England ...

i think Ellipsis has the correct approach to the question -

captaincy is based on suitability for the role, especially in its wider context.

If Terry is found guilty, he will will be dealt with as the crimininal he is proven to be and punished according to the law.

No part of that punishment will be the removal of his captaincy role - it is not part of the punishment, and cannot therefore be seen as him being condemned without trial.

The issue of captaincy as I said, is about suitability, and while this media storm goes on, Terry is not a fit personality to be captain, and as such, the armband will be realocated.

It's about the team, the imnpact on the team, and the perception of the team, and on that basis, I believe that relieveing (rather than 'stripping' which is a different concept altogether) is appropriate.

Guilty or not,John Terrys days as an England defender,are over,imo.

He looks to be a shadow of the player he was.His confidence has taken a battering,he is prone to more lapses in concentration in big games.and he has lost the turn of speed,that half-a-yard of pace to stay with an opposing attacker.

Quick question - leaving aside the charge of racism - did John Terry cheat on his own wife with the ex-girlfriend of a team mate?

I get confused as to which footballer is doing what with whom.

I kinda think he should've had his captaincy suspended until the end of the trial...all seems a bit messy really.
