The Americans don't trust the security here, when the Olympics rolls around next year, well that is a surprise! If they send their people, where on earth do we put them.

I can rent out some spare rooms at £100 a night Breakfast included!!!
We could all start doing it - and make a mint out of them all!

not sure our local council would like it, nor have some hairy a rsed idiots trampling over the place, thank you. But it seems we only matter when they want something, apart from that we can go back to being the lapdog.

em this is on the front page of the guardian today
There never has been a 'special relationship', at least, not a two way one, and I don't blame the States for not trusting our goverment on security, especially when you look at what they are doing to our Armed Forces and Police.
Why don't they play safe and keep their athletes at home?
After all the riots and whatnot I can`t say I blame them for having their doubts. As the article suggests, the army should step in and save face for the UK gov.
We don't seem to have any problems accommodating other nationals, so why should the Americans create any?
For what it is worth....Mrs sqad refuses to go to London any more, as she feels intimidated and unsettled.

I don't blame the Yanks.
Question Author
In some ways i don't blame them either, but seeing as how many of them don't get past their own front porch, wonder how they will view living in a big city. I can see these security types, crew cut and sharp suit, gun at the ready, wild west more like. Is Obama coming, or will he still be in power.
I can see the Beast, the vehicle in case you wondered, being given a
parking ticket every time it rolls onto London streets, knowing our finest traffic wardens.
Since it seems that the Met are not fit for purpose, is it any wonder that the Americans are concerned?

Perhaps with the increase in London crime and all the other situations that are becoming an unreasonable drain on the Met's resources, perhaps it is now time for a huge increase in their manpower numbers?
I for one would not miss the yanks if they didn't come.
Buckingham Palace is letting out rooms. Maybe we should give them the status they deserve.
Question Author
Rov, where did you read that bit of nonsense.
Would we be allowed to have our own armed guards to watch over our athletes were the games being in in the States? Probably not. So why should we allow them to do that here? They don't trust our security? Tough
live with it or stay home
Question Author
I can just see Cameron telling Obama, you can't come here, because we don't want your heavy mob littering up the place, go down a storm I'll bet.
Many of the American security people coming to protect the athletes are FBI agents. I think we can safely assume that the majority of them have been further than their own front porches em. I would actually prefer that our police (and legal system) were a little more like our friends over the pond.
I thought it is a well known idea:
