more of concern is knowing that this could be real, and we are sitting in the flight path, i wonder who we could sue in the event of being hit by said missile, bad enough getting the insurers to pay out for a leaking tap, let alone tell them we got smacked with a bolt from the blue,

The sub-text of Liam Fox's question is actually "Would the UK be prepared to shoot down an hijacked civilian aircraft (possibly with hundreds of people on board) if it appeared that it was to be used in a way similar to the 9/11 attacks?".

The answer appears to be 'Yes'. (That's actually nothing new; it's simply the nearest the Government have actually got to confirming an existing policy).
