i'm not on facebook, i am a loser with no proper friends in real life.
I once saw a letter written on paper in ink, it frightened me, I think people who write with ink on paper are really sad and have no lives, Oh!! the same applies to telephones, what sad no hopers use telephones to gossip and tell lies!!!

What a dreadful world we live in!!

like everything else I think if it becomes an obsession then it's not a good thing. Personally I have a very limited number of 'friends' - mostly family - and find FB and skype a really good way of sharing their lives. Some people are housebound so it's a good way for interaction with others. There's something weird imho though for wanting hundreds of 'friends' on fb.
agree rsvp ;)
apart from kids/teens, I have never met an adult who aspires to want hundreds of FB friends just for the sake of having friends.

everything generally boils down to a gossip mongering popularity contest. even politics, 'celebrity' and ab.

That sort of comment I suggest comes from someone whose knowledge of Facebook comes from rumour, or the news.
FB is what you make it: stick lots of personal information on there and don't bother to check who can see it but then don't complain about "privacy".
Properly used, I think a medium where everyone is "who they say they are" is a lot safer and better than one where everyone is anonymous (I'm not having a go at AB here, as AB fulfils a particular function and anonymity is not an issue).
It depends what you use Facebook for: I use it mainly to keep in touch with distant family and friends and find it highly useful. It has actually brought us all closer together.
I find it is a useful way of staying in touch with friends who have moved overseas, and also really good way to catch up with old school friends, and stay in touch with former collegues.

If I went on TV and incited people to riot in Warrington, the broadcaster would be severley criticised for giving my extreme views an audience, and would probably be finec

Yet if two idiots do this on FaceBook, then this unregulated site, gets no criticism, even though they are the means by which the incitement was publicised.///

Firslty, there is a major difference between being on TV with an audience in the millions to posting something on a site when your audience is predominately just your friends numbering a few thousand maybe.

Secondly, not only did they get widespread condemnation, they also got jail sentences: http://www.bbc.co.uk/...d-manchester-14551582

I really don't understand how bullying on facebook works. If I don't like someone (or their views) I defriend them. I no longer see their posts. Easy
its called going viral or summink. so on the internet it can go global within hours. on tv it could take 2 or 3 days for everyone who didn't see frankie boyle tell that joke to reach ab and 'angry of tunbridge wells'.

who here can remember claire swire without googling ?
facebook's great! I met the love of my life thanks to facebook (looking at a friends photos and when I saw her I said her mate was fit.. and it started there..). It's a form of communication that incorporates e-mails, casual blogging and sharing photos, it's free, instant and hugely accessible, you can get mail wherever you are whenever it's ready and see photos of your family from the other side of the world.
It's technological progress that can be taylored to suit your requirements.
I agree with Jan1957 I am also disabled and I use facebook to privately inbox friends , i never put personal details on for all to read.
I use it to keep in touch with my Son in New Zealand another Son in Kent and we keep in touch with like minded Wolfhound friends from all over the globe!
'Facebook? Is it for losers with no proper friends?'

No it's for losers who have 10 genuine friends but boast of having 500 'friends' on facebook
^^^^ bloody stupid answer!!!
I use FB to keep in touch with school friends, friends that have moved abroad, and view photos, thats about it, never post anything personal on my page!.......works for me!........
I've never heard anyone bragging about having loads of friends on FaceBook

One of my best mates lives in London....he used FB to invite me and OH out for the day on Saturday. We also use it to message about my grandparents care and who is available for the visits.
I have 200 friends listed, many of these people I have never spoken to and don't actually know personally. May of these people just breed, keep or show Irish Wolfhounds, its like a huge worldwide community where we share experiences, stories, advice etc.

Are they all friends? depends what you call friends really, they are very nice friendly like minded people with a love of the same interests, that's good enough for me to call them a friend. Im sure there are plenty of pedants who would argue they are not friends, that's up to them. I have never boasted about the amount of friends I have but I do consider them friends.
