Islamic Intolerance?

The religion of peace is at it again.

Some bible bashing Christian moron burns the Koran in Florida and thousands of Muslims in Afghanistan go completely berserk, kill several people who were unlucky enough to be 'on duty' at the UN commission in Mazar-e Sharif. Amongst those killed are a Swedish guy and a Norwegian chap – hardly representative of the USA...

I don't think it's an unreasonable question to ask: why do some followers of the Islamic faith react so aggressively, violently and murderously to the smallest perceived slight on their belief?

Why do some people seem to delight in deliberately misunderstanding others ?

The default setting for just about everybody on this thread is that the barbarous, murderous acts of these muslims are out of all proportion to the antics of a couple of American zealots.

However, anyone seeking to qualify that stance is being pounced on.
There is NO excuse for beheading these innocent people...........*none*.
But if the American pastors really believed that their actions would pass without response, then it really illustrates how little they understand the mind-set of their opponents.
Do I wish that some of these muslims would drag themselves into the 21st Century ? Yes I do.
Do I understand that many of them are content to stay stuck in the 15th Century ?
Yes I do.
What is to be gained by deliberate agitation ? What end did the American Pastors hope to achieve when they burnt the Koran ? If they were hoping to send a message, I think the one they got back was louder !
If someone burns a poppy on rememberence day he gets a £50 fine in this country..But if someone daresto burn a few pages of the koran all hell breaks loose.. I think there should be a mass burning of this book just to tell these people we don't give a Sugar..bring it on..
You go and burn the book, by all means, sammmo...........but please make sure it is *you* who is available for when the fundamentalists want to seek revenge, rather than some other blameless Westerner ?
Religious intolerance is at the root of this. No matter your religion or nationality , if the burning of a book or a flag incites you to murdering people then surely its more about your own intellectual deficiencies than anything else?We are victims of birth in the main regarding our religion and nationality. These can be changed if we choose at a later date. But at birthwe have no choice in the matters.
To put things in context, the fact that because my mother and father had sex at blackpool in the 50's, resulting in me being born english , should mean that if someone in the world burns a union jack , i as an englishman should go forth and commit random murders of anyone who looks like a johnny foreigner and a flag burner, the rank stupidity of it all it does amaze me.
Furthermore the union jack in question will most likely have been made in china from the same cloth they used for many other flags. Some may even be muslim countries. But the armchair revoloutionaries rarely look at the bigger picture when wearing blinkers.
The loudest response was to Twin Towers bombing, that's been systematically swept under the carpet. The muslims cant see nor accept that initial attack as their fault deserving retalliation.
if muslims want to show how mature and capable of rational thought they are surely they should act that way, instead of reverting to mob violence each and every time they feel they and their prophet have been insulted.
i understand that not all muslims are not violent thugs and cannot be manipulated by leaders who try (successfully) to stir up hatred. but, and it is a very big BUT, where are they in condemming, in print or on radio or television, this mob violence?
very noticeable by their absence.
i am not condoning jones, personally i think he is mentally ill, but if i and fellow practising christians killed someone everytime our beliefs were insulted we could have resolved the population explosion on our own.
come on peace-loving muslims stand up and be counted. join the real world and help put extremists and bullies in their place. you have to stand up to bullies not yield to their violent tactics.
My final word on this. Its crossed my mind whilst reading this thread , that the Christian's seem to be by far the least tolerant , if their posts are anything to go by.
I do suspect that if many of them passed a bearded hook handed card carrying member of the Muslim extremist type in the street that they would pass them by head bowed and not saying a word. I believe the power that the Internet offers some people through anonymity and distance from those they attack and insult may have a lot to do with this. But as a non-confrontational Englishman , who is happy to live in a multi-cultural society , my opinion probably wont count for much on this thread.

"if i and fellow practising christians killed someone everytime our beliefs were insulted we could have resolved the population explosion on our own."

Does the word 'Crusades' ring any bells from your history lessons at school?

andy - i would hope, and do believe, that most christians have moved beyond the crusades. and i think you will find they were undertaken not just to kill muslims. somewhere in my history lessons i can remember that they were undertaken to find the holy grail.

pixi - i am sure you are right. i have not looked at any islamic forums. i was just making the point that i have not seen much protest on the general media that is read and watched by the vast majority of people. the extremist views are presented so why don't people holding more rational views put them forward to the media more forcefully?

i'm not saying that some of my best friends are muslims. that would be a stupid thing for me to say, because they are not, but i have worked and been friendly with people of many different religions (some of them i am still in contact with after 14 years not seeing one another - but still interested in each other and families, welfare, etc). i just don't understand how so many people are supposedly condemming the behavious of extremists and the general public never gets to hear of it.
The Crusades were in fact a concerted effort to reclaim Jerusalem from the Saracens (as Muslims at that time were known) - the Holy Grail became symbolic (but nobody knows what's really meant by that terms anyway).

Pixi - “... [being non-violent] wasnt going to be an option for them which is why i said they had 2 options left....im not condoning or defending it or anything just seeing it how it is with them... do you think because im muslim im going to jump up and clap them on the effing back? grow up!”

Obviously I know you're not responsible for anyone's actions but your own – I never suggested otherwise.

However, what you are doing is tacitly defending them for the choices they made. It's no good saying that you disprove of their actions and then defend those very same actions by claiming that they had no other choice when they clearly did.

The individuals who murdered (and let's not forget we are talking about murder) the unarmed members of staff at the UN headquarters in Mazar-e Sharif are evil, vile excuses for human beings. They think that because some Bible bashing religious moron thousands of miles away in another country has 'insulted' their religion, that gives them the right to go on a violent, murderous rampage - and your argument is that 'they had no choice'...

I think what every Muslim and non Muslim in the world needs to do is to buy a copy of the Koran and a copy of the Bible and have a mass burning session throughout the world, maybe when the see that no matter how many of these stupid books about their imaginary friends are being burned,

IT MAKES NO BLOODY DIFFERENCE TO ANYBODY!!

No bolt of lightning, no cataclysmic event, NOTHING!!!!

Get a life and just move on!!!!!
pixie, I am intelligent enough to know that because you are married to a muslim gentleman you cannot control what other muslims do, but would it be possible to point out to other muslims or even your Imam the fact that the majority of us are not hearing or seeing the normal muslim population condemming the actions of these murderous individuals & for a clear condemnation to be broadcast to the world. Ron.
As an aside, where would this 'Muslim condemnation' be published ?
I can't see the Daily Wail carrying many headlines telling its readers "Moderate Muslims deplore actions of the hot-heads in much the same way as we do !!", can you ?

The British Press is not terribly Islam-friendly, at present, and likes its muslim news-stories to have its readers either salivating or apoplectic, in equal amounts.
They are quick enough to publish anything that comes from the Islamic council of Britain.

I think most people agree with Ron, there would be a lot less intolarance if there was some sort of condemnation forth coming. The lack of it, rightly or wrongly, does nothing to stop all muslims being tarred with the same brush.

Thanx for your answer pixie however I still feel that it would mean a lot to us if The Islamic Council would openly discredit (on T/V) the nutters in Muslim society who are giving all Muslims a bad name,& for the record I think that those so called Christian pillocks in America who burned the Qur'an should be publically defrocked.Ron.
