What a load of toss banning hosepipes. A few years back the government encouraged us to have energy saving combi boilers, well these boilers have been wasting water by the billions of gallons for many years, a fraction of what some may use on their garden.
Anytime of day you call for hot water that boiler will run off about 2/3 lts of cold before it comes through hot or there about's.
Not to mention the so called water saving toilet cisterns that don't work.

Hosepipe bans are ineffective as nobody has ever been prosecuted for contravening one.
Hosepipe bans are very effective at saving water. Most people adhere to them even though there are few prosecutions. There is such a thing as civic responsibility. Obviously not something that canary is familiar with.
that would be the civic responsibility that stopped people holding parties during Covid because the government said so? That worked well.
Yeah, curry and beer parties sound good.
It worked very well, did you do maths at School jno? 8000 out of 60million is a very low number. The fact is that most people obey the rules most of the time. If they did not there'd be no civilisation.

That would apply wherever the heat source is at a distance from the taps. The alternatives are a continually circulating hot water feed or a heater (like a Quooker) at every hot tap. Saves water but uses more energy.
I run the cold off straight into my watering can and a big bowl then use it to water my garden pots. After I've used the hot water to wash the dishes in of course. I am on a water meter I don't waste water, never have since seeing children dying for want of a drink many moons ago.
^^^^ good idea!
right LB, pimply probably isn't on a water meter.
For an avid supporter of Privatised Public Utilities to talk about civic responsibility is hypocrisy of the highest order.

I honour the ban, I took precautions. https://ibb.co/pvnmc0r
We don't have water meters in Scotland but I still try to save where I can.

Some combi boilers have a pre-heat function which will heat up a certain volume of water within a tank contained in the boiler. This function isn't needed if the central heating is being used, as it heats up when on.
You need to work on your use of English. If
Anyway the biggest waste of water is leaking mains which the water companies should be compelled to fix.
you need to work on your use of manners paigntonian!
There was such a thing as civic responsibility when we all contributed to the kitty and shared the water; but these days it's been privatised and enforced meters installed instead; so customers are entitled to buy as much as they like, use it how they wish (within reason), and the vital utility supplier is responsible for ensuring supply is maintained, and should be paying compensation (and possible fines) if pressure is dropped or supply stops.

You’d better send that to The Gargantuan Liar, he obviously missed the memo about following his own rules, the law of the land, parliamentary procedures and ministerial code(before he changed it).
Maggiebee, Scottish Water does offer water meters but installation is at the cost of the householder.
I don't have a combi boiler, my gas boiler is 40 years old and it makes no difference if the boiler heats the water or the immersion heater, it takes an age for the hot water to come through. I do use the cold water, though, it doesn't go down the drain
