That the might of the US army and navy along with their mighty hardware, not to mention the British with their fully loaded aircraft carriers, have been beaten back by a few hundred tatty Toyota pickups with a machine gun on the back, and a few hundred tatty mopeds with one fighter on wearing beach shoes. You have to laugh or dry.

Stickybottle // the Yanks are probably fed up of being the policemen of the world whenever there is a problem//
Don't lose sight of the fact that we do just as much 'policing' of the world's trouble spots.

Not in the same league
We are the Yanks sidekick in such scenarios with their vast resources
Nothing more
A couple of people on this thread should show some respect for the 450 UK troops who died there. As ymb said, it's no laughing matter.
Stickybottle, don't let the SAS (Iraq) hear you say that.

I hope you are not referring to the complete fantasy that was Bravo Two Zero

No one I can see has disrespected any of the uk troops that died there spice, or are you just trying to start a war on AB? The US are all Gob and no trousers, they always have been, bit like Boris, I doubt it will be long before Boris will try to show how strong he his by sending British troops back there.
Anyone just see the Afghan female teacher being interviewed on channel 4 news ?
Had nothing but praise for US and UK forces and did not blame them for leaving
She pointed out that they had more than done their bit and beyond
Said it is down to Afghanis to fight for what they have been helped with so far and that they must now do their bit themselves
I wonder how much she was paid to say that?
Absolutely nothing
Her words were genuine and heartfelt and she was extremely worried for her students
US residency at least. Call me a cynic if you like, but it must music to the ears of the White House. :0)

You obviously don't know the history of WWII.

Not sure the White House would be paying much regard to a teacher interviewed by one of the lesser followed UK media corporations but have it your way
Or maybe watch the interview yourself ?
Sb ; I gave up on Ch. 4 a long time ago.
// Link please. otherwise no idea to what you are referring.//
chrissakes: afghan

Ya haff ta laugh at Teekers !

You remember Jeremy Thorpe - bomber thorpe? - he wanted to bomb Salisbury, now a slum called Harare, and send the navy
to general derision, ridicule because.....

Salisbury ( that was ! that is!) and Afhanistan are landlocked

Afghanistan is completely landlocked—the nearest coast lies along the Arabian Sea, about 300 miles (480 km) to the south

ho hum AB functionally normally and up to its usual standards
// No one I can see has disrespected any of the uk troops that died there spice, or are you just trying to start a war on AB?//

no - - - wars just start on AB - like forest fires !
Mitch McConnell ( who he den?) who is not my fave republican in congress - compared it to the precipitate withdrawal from SaiGon ( where dat den?) in 1975

Ah I see
Go for the easy cop-out option
Will see if I can find it for you (for what it will be worth)

There you go
Have a watch and tell me how much you think she got paid for it
Sb. I've watched the video (thanks) I think she was sincere in describing the most likely scenario for her country, we all know what is inevitable when the Taliban take control of the country ... - chaos, they can do nothing other than fight & will do to the country what the ANC have done to S.Africa. Then another faction will try to remove them & the endless bloody-cycle will continue.

She shows naivety though, in her belief that the Afghan Army could in anyway stop the flow without outside help.
I predict this young woman with her education & language skills wont stick around to watch it though
Probably more hopeful than anything but that is understandable
I guess now you do not believe she has been paid then ?
