Ed, why is this in DIY - is there a deep meaning to the choice of the category?
Better 40yrs ago, if that helps.
Ab Editor is planning a revolution Wolf ;-)
I see that it was moved to another section.

Calicogirl - with the mess that the country is in we would make a better job of it. However, Revolutions sound exhausting. I shall ponder ...

We had a freedom and a social mobility that younger people couldn't imagine nowadays. I feel sorry for young people starting out in life today.
I'm surprised this thread wasn't more popular. I'd expect older people, who know, to support ye olden dayes .
And younger people, who don't, to be celebrating more diversity, Political Correctness and eco-loonery. ;-/
Well I wasn't born 50 years ago.
immeasurably better in most quantifiable ways.
^quisling.
A lot better... we’re even getting trains up here soon
what makes me a quisling spicerack?
quisling: a traitor who collaborates with an enemy force occupying their country. - there may be a lot of them about of late but I think you'll find I'm the opposite of that. If you think differently spicerack then explain how I qualify or withdraw that.

Your old but siding with the young.
Only young people and communists should like what's happened to this country.
Or withdraw that? Lol.
My second will meet your second at Hackney marshes of cock-crow the morn.
have a day off spivey, I'm not siding with anyone, even if I was, that would not make me a quisling unless you consider the young to be the enemy. I'm just being pragmatic, in any measurable way life is better that 50 years ago. There are things I don't think are better but they are more subjective and esoteric.
FYI spivey is a typo.
"in any measurable way life is better that 50 years ago."

Apart from housing prices vs the average wage.
