I knew a nursery rhyme when I was little and can't remember it all but would like to know what it translated as it went "alouette jante alouette, alouette..."  A bit random I know.  Thanks in advance.

I had so much fun with this as a youngster, never knew why but apparently about a lark. Try this site: http://www.geocities.com/guiding_songs/french.html

Lark, kind lark, I will pluck you.

That's not very nice.  Thanks for the link, now I know how to spell it I managed to translate it!

There was a rather crude rugby song that was based on this song. Didn't mention 'plucking' though. (Then again, it did mention something that sounded very similar)
I think that's the version i know!
I remember it from a classic Tom and Jerry cartoon, where they're in France and Jerry is one of the mouseketeers.  His nephew(?) becomes a trainee mouseketeer and sings the song a lot.  Can't offer any other help though!

i can play it on the piano, (the 1st song I learnt), but that is of NO relevance whatsoever to you!! sorry for wasting your time!!
