There have always been mosquitoes in this country. (In fact, there are 32 different species native to Britain). Most of them don't bite humans and, fortunately, those that do bite don't carry diseases like malaria.

While global warming will inevitably bring changes to the populations to the populations of many creatures, you'll always find more mosquitoes when conditions are damp and humid. The recent damp and 'sticky' weather is nothing unusual for a British summer.

Something bit me one night last summer. I was at a party at a water-skiing club, so we were all sat outside. Next day I had a lots of little red marks on my arm forming a small patch. I showed them to the nurse at work and she said I must of been bitten. She gave me some cream.

I never felt a thing!

I hear mozzies wen I fall asleep in the armchair and have to hunt and swat them (usually hidden in curtains).

If you have static water nearby that is where the mozzies will breed. Find the water and tip out or cover with lid to stop the breeding.
