Just heard on the news that Cream founder, Ginger Baker, has died at the age of 80. With his very colourful background, i'm surprised he reached that ripe old age. Excellent drummer and quite a character. R.I.P. Ginger.

Now that's very sad news, a legend has left us.

RIP Ginger.
yep agree....

saw The Cream in Morecambe of all places, one of the first concerts that I went to.
A life lived at full pace.

RIP Ginger.
Sad news, RIP Ginger Baker.
Sad news indeed , they’ll be some party upstairs with people like Freddie M,Bowie and now GB
Yep, I'm surprised he even made it to 80 to be honest.

He could be a grumpy old so and so when he felt like it, but Cream (and before that - The Graham Bond Organisation) were a great part of our growing up.

For a while, I was Dave Brock's (Hawkwind) builder, at around the time Ginger played with them.
He was a well respected Jazz drummer too.
Brian May put a flyer up in his University requesting a Ginger Baker style drummer, Roger Taylor applied and the beginning of what would become Queen were started.

R.I.P Ginger Baker.
Somewhere in my chaotic record library I have an LP of Ginger & Fella Ransom Kuti, does anyone know that? One track is called "Let's start what we have come into the room to do". !

Better, in some ways, when they all died at 27.
I used to love Hawkwind @1970.
The "Live!" album from 1971 Khandro.

That brings back a few memories.

You've gotta get up early to beat SuperCool Mamya to the draw ;o)
Oh yes.
Thanks mamya - wow! It brings back memories of driving my 2.4 mark 2 Jaguar to South Wales listening to that (not to mention a few parties!)
A legend in his own lifetime, and will be remembered as one of the greatest of the rock era.
He passed away peacefully, apparently, and I saw a comment somewhere saying it was the first peaceful thing he's ever done!
RIP Ginger.
Amazed to see that he was 80 - first of that generation of musicians famous in the 60s to reach that milestone, but there are plenty more hot on his heels.....
A great loss. A unique drummer. Missed.x
R I P Ginger, met him a few times in London Clubs years ago, was always a nice Guy, he will be missed, that is for sure.
Mr Baker wasn't someone you'd want to mess with. He broke the nose of this guy who was making a documentary about him:

The character in my avatar (Animal from The Muppets) was allegedly based on Ginger Baker. He certainly had a style which was all of his own.
