When my daughter sends me greetings cards she always addresses them to Mummy, and when we speak on the phone, at the end she always says "Love you mummy"......................she's 42.
Is it an upper class thing? I used to wince when my aunt referred to my grandmother as 'Mummy' and would say things like "We're going over to Mummy's at Christmas'. She herself was more middle than upper, but had pretensions. I have since noticed genuinely grand ladies doing the same. What's wrong with calling the woman 'Mother' (or 'the old bat')?
It's a standing Royal Joke, he's done it before (I can't remember when but it was a similarly public event) - "Your Majesty, Mummy" - ER2 was laughing.
yes my 50 something son does call me "mummy" with tongue in cheek he also calls me Ma, me being an East End girl where "muvver" prevails , rather likes it.
