Do you really think this programme was live, or pre-recorded?
Pre-recorded, as it is always is.
But what's happened to Sandie's voice?
Hey! Gromit has just joined the party here on AB, even if it's in 'Music', rather than 'Chatterbank' where everyone else is! (Come out of the kitchen and join in the main party, Gromit!)

Yes, I love the annual Hootenanny. Yes I was slightly disappointed when I found out that it's not really live, but I still like the way that it creates a party atmosphere which offers an open invitation to everyone.
Some class acts on tonight. Brilliant show.

Didn't know Sandie was still singing though.

I don't think Sandie Shaw knew Sandie Shaw was still singing.
I also thought it was good tonight. It was recorded about two and a half weeks ago. As usual, Caro was brill.
Sandie's still great. Still can't sing but her voice has gone down a few feet so it's more interesting.
also, she has lots of outfits.
The standard was high yes, but isn't it all a lie?
it's a variety show; I don't think anyone's ever claimed it was shown live, nothing much is these days (and when it is, eg Glastonbury, they usually say so).
jno; But what about the countdown, I began to feel previous to that, that it was all artificial, (the editing was so slick) that I was being led to believe that all those people were celebrating the moment with me. An hour earlier, I had watched the start of the new year being celebrated in public at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, not as good a show, but at least it was real. Happy new year anyway!
will have a look in, it's usually pretty good.
I actually switched over to BBC1 for the live countdown, Khandro, so I missed that. But I'm still not bothered that it was pre-recorded (mainly I suppose because I know it is - unlike that business with the polar bears, which did irritate me).
I for one am very pleased it is pre-recorded.

It has to be cheaper than paying staff to work over new year's eve into new year's day.
It won't be cancelled due to bad weather.
All the bad language, drunken behaviour etc can be edited out.

I prefer people to spend holidays with their families than for my benefit, whether they be stars or back stage technicians.
