and if you like Strauss compositions.......

some do find them a little sugary.

I find the concert always a joyous and fun occasion though - would love to attend it.
Ann, yes watching now, and mentioned it a number of times on other threads, as i know that some on here like classical music. Also in my post on general TV over the bank holiday. Lovely music.
Watching now Ann as we do every year, really look forward to it new years day.
DT, you have to know someone rich and important, as you can't get tickets for this mega event.

Yes the music is very uplifting, would have liked a few more well known classical music like this to have accompanied the London fireworks last night, instead of some of the racous numbers they played.
Looking forward to watching it tonight as there are less distractions.
Got my love of Strauss from my Mum.
Would have loved to have taken her to Vienna.
My youngest daughter told me she will take me one day.
Will have to wait and see.

<raucous> ! New Years resolution Ann - proof read what you have typed!
for anyone with the stomach for it, there is Antonio Pappano conducting Meistersingers on Radio 3? that may not be correct, but all 6 hours, think of listening to Wagner for that long, even i would have retired long before then.

Hubby and I have been to Austria twice many years ago, but never made it to Vienna but Salzburg was a lovely city. Its a beautiful country, wish we could afford to return - maybe one day ...........
Ja, Frau Em10, Sie sind offenbar nicht deutsch. Sechs Stunden der großen Wagner ist überhaupt nichts für einen guten Deutschen.
DT, my German isn't what it once was, can you roughly translate.
Agree to Salzburg being lovely (so is the countryside) - Vienna is much more of a German Paris in the centre - the outskirts are very industrial, but the centre reminds me of streets like the Boulevard Haussman in Paris....
//Yes, Em10, you are evidently not German. Six hours of the great Wagner is nothing at all for a good German//

DT we went to Strobl on the Austrian Lakes near St Wolfgang (fantastic) then the following year went to Mayrhofen in the Tyrol, equally beautiful scenery...
"Sechs Stunden des großen Wagners..."
Question Author
Are you German DT? Either that or you speak fluent German?
DT, not German, not last time i looked, even Germans can't always sit through Wagner, i find him hard going.

Just realised there was something excellent on over the break, and that
was the brilliant Antonio Pappano conducting Tosca, with Angela Gheorgiou, Bryn Terfel as Scarpia and the wondrous Jonas Kaufman. One thing out of all the dross...
DT, not sure anyone heard that quote from Petroc Trelawney, about someone being offered tickets for the concert, they declined when told they were 3 grand each, crikey.
yes I did - 3k Euros.....not surprised though. How much to get on one of the Queen's barges this year for the Royal Water music this summer?

No I am not German and my French is far, far better.
The Blue Danube, how this brings back some wonderful memories...
