I thought it was 17 :-(
I thought so too craft.
If your talking Cars it's 17 as far as I know
In the UK the legal driving age for a car is 17 for a moped it is 16
It is 17, unless MJfan is in America.
Oh and I don't think 1 year would make a blind bit of difference tbh
It is 16 if you are sufficiently disabled, and anyone can ride a moped at 16.

I would prefer the age to be 20.
you can ride a moped at 16, but not drive a car until 17. I think that you should be 18 before learning to ride motorbike, or learn to drive a car, and with a provision you use L plates for at least a year afterwards. I am not sure that is the case already, perhaps someone can confirm this.
I think it should rise to 25.

well my teacher wants us to ask people there opinion so I posted it on here I am from Ontario and its 16
In Texas it is 14 on routes designated FM (Farmer to Market), practical in their distant counties but through the middle of Houston (i10)?????
OK MJFan, so you're in Canada. Well in my opinion it's OK for females to drive at 18 but I would make males wait until they were 25. Boy Racers ggrrrrrrrrr.
This is a UK site and you may not get a fair range of answers as we are not really your demographic!

In the UK we have an issue with boy racers, I would raise the age to 21 and make the test a lot lot harder and then restrict car types and speed
You're not going to get too many useful replies from an British website asking about the driving age in America.

(though over here affording insurance at a young age is the biggest problem for young drivers)

I got some ideas from you to write in my report thanks :)
Not all young men are boy racers. My son passed at the age of 17years and 5 months, hes almost 22 years old now . He has never had a speeding ticket - parking ticket - and never been stopped by the police. He drives all over the country..
arwyn, good for him, but many are, my brother was, nearly killed us taking his first lesson, put foot hard down on peddle, without waiting for said instructions, we were lucky didn't hit anything.
I'm expecting a call from someone in Ayr, Ontario, so I'll get back to you with her opinion!

Mine is that 16 is too low. In Britain, there is no restriction on the power or engine size of car you can drive at 17, but there is for motorcycles. For those, you are, basically, restricted to bikes under 125cc at 17 and can only ride bigger bikes than that after two years riding the smaller ones (it's more complicated than that, but that's the essence of it).

I agree with the earlier post that 17 is too low for boys but 16 would be all right for girls! For safety, it ought to be 21 for boys. In practice, it is difficult for a 17 year-old to drive because the insurance cost is very high here. Young drivers,17-21, particularly males, are involved in far more accidents, and far more costly ones, than older drivers, and present far more danger to themselves, their passengers, and other road users. And this is why we restrict access to motorcycles; the prospect of a 17 year-old on a big bike is a frightening one.
the test in the UK is very rigid and i would be happy to stay at 17!

after that, if they can afford the car, the insurance and the petrol ... they can drive! x
raise to 21 imo
