How long can you have an out-dated tax disc on your car before it would be deemed as illegally parked on a road?

I'm with you tigger - I would report it too. It's irritating and it's not your responsibility to go and canvas the neighbours. I would guess that the black and white notice on it is a police aware notice and they will leave it for another week or two and if no owner makes themselves known then it will be towed away.
Go and have a look at the notice, that's the easiest thing to do - we had one in our road, it had about six penalty notices on it before it was towed. Our council's website has a link to report abandoned cars, you can do it that way probably. Our neighbour had a spare car parked up the road (but taxed and insurance) - other neighbours reported that and the police told the owners, but it was fair comment, it hadn't moved for weeks.
Joko always has that attitude...

My tax disc arrived :-)

Hi Annie, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like this about it.

I've just had a look box and its a flyer for Man & Van hire! Lol

I have noticed it myself in the past Ummmm. Nice one :o)
Report it on your council website if they have the facility to do so, I know ours has as I have reported five in the past six months.

Its alright for the goody two shoe liberals on here to say leave it be, however they dont have to live with the eyesore every day. Also cars that stand for any length of time soon become a target for the bored kids of the area, before you know it you have a smashed up wreck in front of your property, or worse still you wake up to an orange glow and blue flashing lights the middle of the night.

Our council website has that facility too, THH. I've had a look. People should take responsiblity for their cars but I think this one has been abandoned. Either that or stolen and parked here.
i started off with a story about how annoying and unfair it was when it happened to me and said one word - sad...because it is very sad that they, and you, have tried to cause trouble unecessarily....it was lucky for me that i was in that day and was able to stop the car being towed.
i was saying that those actions made me angry and no doubt the owner of this car will be too.

i was then attacked and called rude, nasty, vile and venomous!!

i wasnt being at all...

my second post was in response to that....

i dont have any attitude ummm, i just think people shouldnt be so quick to stick the boot in when they dont have any facts - especially when the car has been taxed until now and has been parked perfectly legitimately until only a few days ago and you have been waiting to pounce
why go straight in for the kill? why not try to deal with it with some courtesy? you sounded very excited at the opportunity to report it.

id like to know where the rules state that you cannot have a car unless you use it regularly?
it might well be annoying to some, i am not disputing that, but really its just tough sh1t...life is full of annoyances without pettiness like this.

it is not me with the attitude here...and having a few people agree with you does not make it so

i hope a tax disc appears soon
i agree tigger, it may well be abandoned or stolen etc...but you dont know that and you could be causing somone a lot of trouble by just reporting it without at least trying to see it if is a neighbours car first
they may not be able to afford to get it back and it may be crushed...
well joko if calling someone, sad, sly, petty, and selfish isn't being nasty I'd hate to see you when you are...

As I have said Joko I will wait until next week to see if it has been updated. I'm not getting excited about doing it. In fact I shouldn't have to do it in the first place. The "excellent" reference was for getting some answers to my query.
craft i said that in response to what i was called first, that all.

but tigger, good i am glad you are giving this person at least a fair chance.
if no disc appears after you wait then fair enough, report.
if they do put a disk on, just leave a note asking them if they would mind moving it...you never know they may just move it and have no idea it bothers you.
im just sticking up for someone who could be bedridden, bereaved, dead, etc.
tiggerblue10 I'm on your side on this question, I wouldn't wait 2 months I know when my road fund licence is due & I apply for a replacement disc in plenty of time to put the new one in place exactly on the date it starts I think I would give someone 1 week & if the new disc is not shown I would ring the D.V.L.A & report it. No matter what someone on here tells you it is illegal to park or drive a vehicle on the road or highway without displaying a valid disc
AT ANY TIME. Ron.
It is does get taxed and it stays outside tigger's house, there is no reason why they should move it then - nobody has the right to park near their house, let alone outside, on a public highway.
Question Author
Thanks Ron. If it does get taxed then I haven't got a leg to stand on if I want it moved. I'm just going to see what happens.

If somebody is bedridden, bereaved etc. then reporting the car could help resolve the issue when the DVLA make their enquiries.

Ummmm, if you renewed online you are given something like 5 days' grace to give the disc time to arrive - you are not committing an offence by not displaying it, the DVLA allow for this and it's on their database that you have renewed (I know it's arrived now, but saves you worrying in future).
Tiggs, I'd report it if you think it has been abandoned - regardless of the tax situation. A car was dumped in my car park a while back and someone set it on fire eventually causing a lot of damage to other cars parked nearby.
I knew that Karen....Even if it was later than that it wouldn't have bothered me. Got a nice shiny blue tax disc now :-) Although I wouldn't worry about it too much I felt much happier once I had it..

It would have been here in plenty of time had I not lost my car keys...

Hi Eddie, I didn't check last night as I didn't have the reg. but I've just gone and got it now and checked it. I don't really want to publish the Reg. on here but it basically says "No, your vehicle is not registered with the MID".

What should I do now? Shall I wait a few days and check again?
I wouldn't tiggs. If it's not registered it means it's got no insurance either so I would report it now.
