You'll feel it juddering the brake pedal rapidly.

When driving in the rain and recently in the snow I brake slightly hard, the brakes feels like grinding on metal. I had MOT today and reported this to the mechanic who later said it's the ABS at work. Just want some assurances it's the ABS and not the brake caliper grinding on the brake disc.
hmm, my experience of ABS is like someone drumming rapidly on the bottom of your foot ... you might even hear a bit of a rapid bang-bang-bang-bang as the brakes keep reapplying.

Never known ABS to feel or sound metallic.
yes it i give a rapid wheel shudder felt thru the bodywork and your brake pedal if the mot bloke says your brakes are ok trust him thats what it feels like

More accurately it sounded like the front wheel axel dragging on ground whenever I brake hard in wet weather.

Anyway I didn't fail on my MOT, so I suppose it is the ABS at work.
Its the Norm Beswad, the ABS is doing it's job.
When it applies to my car you get an unhealthy rattle as though something is coming loose.

I think the design as some faults. For instance if going over a sharp bump in the road at the same time as applying the footbrake the car momentarily free wheels and the car seems to shoot forward without being in control. This is only for a short moment and corrects itself but by then have progressed about 5 yards or so it seems.
I have taken it to the dealer and he says this is normal.
