Ive just noticed that on my new used car. the ABS light doesn't come on with the others when I turn the key in the ignition. The car definately has an ABS pump under the bonnet and was sold with a 12 month MOT. I thought that a visual test of these warning lights was part of the MOT these days? Ie. they all light up and go out again within a set time. Or is it only if it stays lit all the time, thereby tempting the dealer to remove the bulb and hoping the tester wont notice? I definately smell a rat!!
Anyone know the position as regards MOT.
Thanks

the abs light should be checked during an mot that it illuminates and then goes out after a few seconds, sounds to me as if the bulb has been removed to get the car through an mot, but the garage will just say that it came on during the test and that anybody could have removed the bulb. also this is probably hiding a fault with the abs system hence the reason the bulb has been removed. are you 100% sure that the car has abs??

There is a box thing with ABS motor stamped on it.. so it looks as if your'e right . They'll just deny everything. No wonder the used car trade has such a bad image
So I'll have to trot off to a dealership for a rip-off computer diagnosis now... Urrrr
not necesseraly, most independent garages have scanners/diagnostic systems that should be able to pinpoint the fault.
