I know the cost of an M. O.T.today but when and what was the cost of the very first M.O.T.Thanks

The Mot test was introduced on the 12th September, 1960 for vehicles over 10 years old.

It was very basic - testing mainly brakes, lights and steeriing.

Sorry, I don't know how much it was.

Thanks for your replies yes I have looked on google and places and can't find the cost of the first one.As far as I can remember it was about �12 .50.My son took mine for MoT and I said how much do you need he said around �45 and this is what started the conversation.Thanks
Bear in mind that the current MOT test has a stated maximum fee only (e.g. �44.15 for a class IV vehicle) and that an MOT tester is able to charge any amount they choose up to that maximum.

My two previous MOTs have each been charged at �19.99
I don't think the MOT was �12.50 in 1960 - that was a lot of money then. Nearly �200 in today's money!
