Does anyone have any idea what this means?

Under-trays fitted obscuring some underside components
Engine covers fitted obscuring some components in the engine bay

The car has not been modified in any way.

The MoT is largely a visual check ie, no dismantling is included. Some items in the test only need be checked if they are visible and the MoT tester has made a note that some items were not checked because they were obscured by the engine cover or the sump cover. He is not saying there was a problem with them, just that they were not checked.

Ah. Gotcha. Thanks for that
Mind you, what was he trying to check under there?
How can you check something you can't see Hop?
You can't but I wondered what he wanted to see, but couldn't.
Is your car a Nissan Juke by any chance, hc4361 ?.
The last car I had was a E36 Coupe 1999, the sills were covered by "Oversills" they could not be checked on the MOT, I'm sure he signed that to the effect, but I knew they were good as I had taken them off each side, greased the rears & replaced, as you know, the muck that gets thrown up as a norm does not get to places with under shields etc.
A fuel leak from a pump would warrant a fail.. engine mounts, rust etc.
Some engines these days completely fill the engine bay and inspecting every inch of it is not always possible because of covers.
Ah, I see, thanks.

tonyav, nothing as exciting, it is a Hyundai i30

By the way it is 7 years old and it is the first time it has ever been mentioned on an MOT
I got an 'advisory' at my last MOT .. one of the rear seat belt anchor points could not be checked .. As a "childs safety seat was fitted" at the time of the inspection.
Would have thought you just pop the belt release and refit it to check if it operates or not ?

I just wondered, hc4361 because that's exactly what was on my MOT to last January which was it's first MOT.
Question Author
That's interesting, tony

I think that's the way it is is most modern cars now, big plastic covers over everything. Drop a spanner while your under the bonnet and I bet it won't reach the ground.
They cannot release a safety belt from a child car seat to test it as if they re-fitted it wrongly, or not at all, they would be at fault if a child was injured as a result. Best option is not to touch it.
Also, MOT testers are not always right and sometimes need telling their job. I once had a Toyota Corolla. The tester failed it for a hole in the exhaust and a failed nearside fog bulb. - There was only ever one fog bulb fitted and the hole in the exhaust was a condensation drain, all of 3mm diameter ! Not sure how long that guy kept his licence to test ...
