Compare the tyre size markings around the rim on both cars. If they are the same they will fit.
Pobably not a good idea, if it is very old and has been lying around. If it is OK and hasn't been maltreated then the numbers on the sidewall will give you all the information that you need.

its not 'old' old, i just meant its from the car i had before this one - its probably about 4 years old, and its been stored indoors.

cheers
check the nut/stud spacing too, theres 4 stud (probably on the 405) and 5 stud, possibly the Passat.
VW, Audi, Rover and Vauxhall wheels are often the same as long as they are 4 stud. I doubt a Peugeot wheel will fit a Passat.
Be careful with tyres for an estate, they are often different due to the weight carrying ability. (reinforced or 'extra load').
Check the sidewalls for splitting/cracking. If it is an old tyre it might be best to just bin it.
assuming it's a tyre without a wheel then the stud pattern is irrelevant. Just take a not of the size, it's be something like 225/45/R18. then it will fit an 18 inch wheel. Check the same marks on Laguna and make sure they are the same. The 18 may be preceeded by ZR or R or possibly another letter. Pretty well all cars have a variety of wheel/tyre combinations that will give the correct rolling circumference so you have to look at a specific car to see.
