You can actually get prosecuted for carrying an unsafe load. It's not so much that the snow may slip and obscure your windscreen but that, as the inside of your car warms up and that heat transfers to the roof, the entire amount may fly off and straight onto the windscreen of the poor sod behind you. If that happens, and there's a serious accident and they find you, expect a very hefty fine indeed.

It takes two minutes to brush it off. Why people don't is beyond me. The same applies to trucks, although the problems involved in brushing one of them off have to be considered.
I've told you before, it's Flob a Dob ickle weed, Flob a Dob, if you're going to use a quote, geddit right, just for once!

I once had the snow fall off my roof onto my windscreen as i was driving and what a scary experience that was, obviously the wipers are not much use in that situation it taught me a lesson I now always make sure the snow is removed before I drive off

That snow coming off your roof & onto your windscreen can cause extra pressure on your wiper motor, the result, blow fuse.
