hi, im trying to figure out what could be the problem, some say the symptoms are the flywheel on google, but i want to be sure, when i take off and in the motion of lifting clutch there is a tremble that runs through me, on the clutch pedal, and when i am picking up speed and press clutch the revs raise or at least stay at the same rpm before finally dropping, what could be the cause?

If the vehicle has a diesel engine – it could be the dual-mass flywheel breaking up.

Take it to a garage for a diagnosis, and repair quote (which should be free).
Question Author
it is a petrol engine, it is a dual mass flywheel, it is a bmw 323i e46
Oil on the clutch plate, Clutch ready for renewal, whats the mileage & has the car been used for towing?
Question Author
i had a new clutch (second hand put in to it not long ago, because the clutch before that had same problem, i want to make sure i do the right thing instead of spending unnecessary money
You are one heel of a bloke Top, what ever made you replace with a used? did you replace the Thrust Bearing? or do you use the original one.
Question Author
hahaha, i do not know, funds at the time were low? i didn't replace thrust bearing, could that be the problem
Does the pedal feel hard? does the clutch make a unusual sound when in the upright position then go when depressed? when the clutch was changed was the flywheel inspected for crack etc? lastly, when did all this happen, was there a pattern,? did it start after a service etc?
Question Author
the pedal feels normal, im pretty sure, well it makes an unusual noise when i have my foot tapped on it, with no pressure, there may be a slight noise when pedal up, and when the pedal pressed, well i had the flywheel changed aswell, well i have not had the car that long, since i had it there was the rumbling feeling when taking off, say a few days after i bought it i noticed
If the pedal is making that sound It indicates thrust bearing, I am not criticizing you top I'm sure we have all been there, but with a job as big as the Clutch you alway change the 3, Clutch ( Its also known as the spinner plate) Thrust bearing, Pressure plate. How far up does the pedal come before it engages the drive? if its 3 inch of the floor ( Clutch)
Question Author
i don't think it is as little as 3 inches and let you know, what is it meant to be, i will check though, if only the previous owner didnt steel the clutch and put it on a website for sale after deal was agreed then i wouldn't be having this problem, where can i get a thrust bearing
Top, the bearing is on spline shaft that comes out of the gearbox( Spigot shaft) to replace this the box has to come out!!!!! I don't know you Money circumstances but when & if you decide to replace the componats as said, replace the 3, otherwise you are throwing money away, from you have said in your posts is the car E46? I'm sure you had trouble from the start! You can get the package from Ebay. I'll check the price for you.
Prices range from £134.00 upwards, check Euro parts, GFS Motor spares, or Google your cars details, but I would advise " NOT TO USE USED PARTS"
Question Author
ok, how can i tell if the flywheel needs to be replaced aswell, i noticed a thrust bearing- lower for sale on ebay (new) would that be any use
Question Author
yes its a 99 e46 323i
Thats up to you Top but I would get the lot from one seller, do not miss / match, when the box is out then you can check the Flywheel, & only then. Do your homework regards the price but do not purchase CHEAP as believe me it does not work( With respect) you have found out the hard way, if you are going to do the job yourself, allow a morning to do the job & THINK SAFE unless you have a pit.
I have a modeo diesel, the dual mass was changed because of juddering and terrible vibration at all speeds, but it cost £700. I though a bmw would be far more expensive.
Question Author
ok, well i play it safe and prob save up to buy the lot, the pedal doesnt travel from the floor to it's highest much more than 3 inches
£4>> £500 o.w.i.n.
Question Author
what do i type in on the search to find one
Google OR eBay BMW E46 ( The car's year) Clutch Assembly, or Clutch /Pressure Plate / bearing it will come as a clutch package but as said Tops, do NOT miss / match, if any of the part go faulty & I hope they do not, you can send the lot back.
