That's twice this week I've heard of a biggish spider being referred to as a tarantula. In our house a large spider is called Boris ( long before a certain politician came on the scene ) and a small one is an Insy.

When my daughter was small we lived in a house near open fields...so lots of spiders. The big boy that hid in corners was called Harry the Hairy spider. I was determined that my daughter wouldn't be scared of them...unlike her best friend.

Just seen on TV that there’s a huge increase in these critters due to a very wet July , more eggs we’re laid ….apparently
