Star Wars was screened in 1977 but what year was it made? was it 1976?

No doubt someone will be able to give an exact answer, but I think if memory serves me right, much of it was filmed in '76, but some may have been filmed in '75. The special effects took quite a long time to do then, and they were all added after filming. Trailers were certainly out in late '76, so I don't think any filming was done in '77, unless a small amount was done post production.
