on the left is a selection of topic areas, clicking on these areas will reveal some sub topics.

once clicked you can read people's questions and you can either answer a question or ask on of your choosing.

this is chatterbank, this is the part of the site that relaxes from the hurly burly of questions and answer mode, this is more a chatting area, although lots of questions are often asked.

OK... chocolate and cakes aside, here's how it works...

You think of a Question that desperately needs answering... you work out which category said Question should go into .... lol (sometimes it is simply NOT obvious !!) then you post your Question. If you are lucky and not too green (ie a new person on the block) then some kind soul on here will actually post a (sensible ????) answer to your Question and you will be a wiser, happier, wolf.... Of course that simple strategy can go wrong and some users on here will accuse you of being existing users and all sorts of nastiness, just ignore them.... YOU know who you are ! Whatever you do, do NOT post crossword or puzzle questions in Food & Drink - it seriously ****** me off ! :)
