Childrens tv series

I have just had one question answered regarding a tv show from 20 or so years ago and i've just half remembered another.

All i can remember is there were some children staying in house and to amuse themselves they decided to put on a play, because it was only them they made themselves an audience with dummies, as in dummies made from old clothes and stuffed with rags etc. they also had faces. If i remember rightly these dummies came to life and were quite evil and were after the children, i also recall a garden with a gate or a door to it.

I know its all a bit vague but this program really scared me when i was younger and there is an advert on at the moment for vauxhall Corsa with those puppet things and it reminds me of it in a scary way.

I hope someone can help me!!! In one way or another.

Ah, glad I'm not the only one that has flashbacks to these horrible puppet things!
I seem to remember the series being based on an E Nesbit story and The Phoenix and the Carpet and The Enchanted Castle were both made into tv series in the 70's.
I've got a feeling it's the Enchanted Castle - weren't there also dinosaur statues or something in the garden.
More research needed - I'll get back to you. x

Oh yinyang i've looked and thats it!!! It states that it is sought after on dvd by thirty year olds.......why????

It did really freak me out, and like you i am glad i am not the only one. Years and years i have wondered what the program was.

Ive wondered what that show was for years (yes im in my 30s) and no-one could recall the name but some remembered the statues coming to life and often mentioned secret garden instead.

Squirtle - the reason these DVDs are sought after by thirty-year-olds is because we're all just big kids!!

My son (who now has two kids of his own) has all the Tom and Jerrys on DVD...

Oh i agree we are big kids but when i said why? i meant cos the enchanted castle was scary to me and i can't imagine wanting to watch them again. But then again i am intrigued.
