80's poss 90's Childrens TV Series

Does anyone remember a childrens fantasy series that had some sort of box with a little stick coming out of the middle, pushing the stick in different directions made different thnks happen ie made the user very small. The series had men that turned into wolfs and all I can remember is that it was mainly a winter setting, I cant remember if they passed into another world or not when using the box. I have asked many people about this program and only myself and my sister can remember it but our memories are so vague. Can anyone help ?
