I think spat might mean Running the Halls (kids in the hall was a canadian sketch show) and I'll throw Sweet Valley High into the mix.

I remember watching a programme on Ch4 in the late 80's that had a young Matt Le Blanc in it as a jock named Chuck. If i remember rightly the teacher was called Kevin Keegan & it was called TV 101.
