Soap Beer

I heard that the beer they drink in emmerdale is real and also a soap in ireland has real beer. What about eastenders and coronation street do they have real beer?

Here's a question that I actually can answer from first-hand experience. About 25 years ago, I was on University Challenge and the studio was right next door to the Coronation Street set.

It was late at night so we were free to walk on to the set: we sat in Hilda Ogden's kitchen, played darts in the Rover's (they were bent) and, of course, pulled a pint. It was pretty digusting, it was warm, very weak, beer. It was like the shandies I drank as a kid - but not so nice.

Of course, things might have changed since then but in 1980, that's what the good folk of Weatherfield had to put up with.

I can't imagine them using real beer. However,in the classic war film Ice Cold In Alex,the Carlsberg lager that the late,great Sir John Mills drank at the end of the film was real and scene did require a few shots. Needless to say,the great man was a bit tipsy by the afternoon.
