Did you know that the name mayonnaise is meant to have its origins in Mahon, captial of Menorca, where a French chef started making the sauce while France was occupying the island in the mid 18th century.

Question Author

I was doing a course in Manchester once. A trip to pick up some lunch was discussed and I heard the word 'barmcake' for the first time.

Turns out it's just a bap.

No it isn't Hoppy, it's bigger than a bap.

I moved down South for a few years and on my first trip to the bakers shop I asked for half a dozen barmcakes.

It was quite funny really watching them scratching their heads wondering what on earth did I mean. they then asked me, can you see them anywhere?

Question Author

Are they just in Manchester?

Barsel is that akin to being a Flatcake.
