Without making mayonnaise from scratch, how can you flavour normail mayonnaise with garlic? I doubt you can just mix it with some crushed garlic... or can you!?

I do! But I only flavour the batch I'm using at the time; I don't add garlic to the jar as I've no idea as to whether it will go off.
you can also get garlic powder, which i use
just get a bowl, put some mayo in it and add some crucheds garlic to taste. Mix well. Et voila.

I also add some freshly ground black pepper and some oregano.

oh yeah, and it's exactly the same for making garlic butter, just use butter instead of mayo - obviously!!
For a change add some dried chilli seeds or powder (very carefully) and test taste until you get the right 'heat' for you. Sure to liven up sandwiches, chips or cold meats and great for dipping veggies.

nice one, thank you all for these posts! I got some calamari that I want to serve drizzled in lemon juice with garlic mayo to dip... and some nice crusty bread mmmmmm
Think the one I'll try first is just crushing a clove and using some to flavour as you suggest violetblue.. purely as I have both garlic & mayo in the house. But I think I'll look out for garlic powder and try that too...
Also lovin these other suggestions - chilli, oregano etc...
Thanks!
A couple of variations we like are
1. adding wholegrain mustard and a very small dab of honey - voila honey/mustard mayo at a fration of the shop cost.
2. try adding some tikka or korma paste, for a quick curry dip - lovely with ritz or tuc biscuits
I have a hand blender and in 5 minutes in an empty glass jar I can make garlic mayonnaise from scratch. If it's a high speed blender it will work. You just put an egg into the jar and for normal mayonnaise use whatever oil your using to half-fill the jar. for garlic I just use garli-infused olive oil and then I put blender on and tilt bottom and draw it upwards and it creates a suction and turns it magicly into mayonnaise in 5 -10 minutes tops. eessy peesy
you are a sick sick puppy - squid! *vomit*

i like garlic mayo though. use the squeezy tube. yummy
