I was watching an episode of Unforgotten last night and there was a view of Salisbury cathedral. it got me wondering just how many Cathedrals there are in the UK and of that number how many do not have scaffolding on them.

And they are not all in cities :D
Good question, fourteen85. I know Salisbury has the tallest spire in England. The amount of work to preserve our cathedrals is immense.
Interestingly, Salisbury has a dedicated stone mason who also runs 2-day workshops for £175. Stone work is subject to the ravages of time and the stone does crumble. The workmanship to replace each piece of stone is amazing.

There are 13 towns in the UK that have Anglican cathedrals but do not have city status. Sorry, I can’t post a link.

And there are cathedrals without cities Barry.
Thanks to Naomi, I now know that!
One of my favourite cathedrals is St David's Cathedral in Haverfordwest. St David's became a city in 1994 and is the smallest in the UK. Well worth a visit if you're anywhere near. :)
st David 's is smaller than Wells ?
which is pretty teentsy
I have just had an advert for Salisbury Cathedral on Facebook. Apparently they have one of the copies, of the only 4 remaining, of the Magna Carta on display and you can book to visit it.
I believe Brighton has had a cathedral before it received city status.
Newry is another
