There was a piece about this on BBC Breakfast this morning. It's one of those deeds which cost very little in monetary terms but are worth a fortune to the recipient. It's something he'll remember all his life, however long it is. Well done to the entire Everton team and staff for giving their time; far more value than any amount of money.

yes please I don't understand what you think football is "secondary" to. The kid visited the club did some pictures and was the mascot. The game was still the primary event so forgive me if I am mystified.

I think in the mind of the boy the details of the match will fade with time but he will always remember meeting not only his hero but also the rest of the team and the staff and also that it was a personal treat just for him. He might remember the match score, particularly because Everton equalised in the dying minutes.

Just a pity he had to witness the shameful antics of England's captain and all-time record goal-scorer acting as if he'd been hit by Mike Tyson, when all he had received was a push - that's PUSH nor PUNCH - in the face.

This is one of those stories at which the footballing community excels - and it's across the Premier League - credit where credit is due, particularly on the day that the Fulham forward got an 8 week ban from the FA for pushing and swearing at the referee during the Man U Cup match.....he deserved even more.
