When did four contestants become three? Does anyone please know the reason for this deduction in numbers?

I've only seen the show on a very few occasions, but (excuse my ignorance) I thought that was the way it worked.
Monday from the start of the new series.
Googling for
"tipping point" "three contestants"
appears to indicate that just about every newspaper in the country has covered the story but they all seem to quote the same information which, while announcing the change, fails to explain it. e.g.

Like so many things (e.g. the way that Microsoft keeps changing its software), it probably comes about simply because there's an employee somewhere whose job description requires them to keep coming up with (so-called) 'improvements'. If they can't think of a new way to do things, they'll be out of a job, so they keep 'improving' whatever it is that they're responsible for, even though nobody actually wants to see their changes brought into effect!

Cynical? Moi?

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" seems to be a thing of the past.
The celebrity version only ever has three contestants so no one goes out after the first round. Maybe they think that works better.
The new format is the one they've always used for the 'celebrity' version.

Thank you. Personally I preferred it with four.
Yes, the Celeb version is just 3 so that nobody goes out in the first round but i always thought this was to enable the Celebs to make up a bit more money for their charity.

But in the regular show the contestants don't take home any money unless they get through to the final round so don't know why they changed it.

Or maybe they’re running out of potential contestants.
A reduction of Ben Shephards would be a vast improvement.
Question Author
Not so. Ben is an excellent host.
Oh come on. You know they aren't going to raise the price when they can make it smaller and claim it's 'fun sized', or something. Today's special offer, new & improved, 3 for the price of 4. Even more chewy goodness.
