I read somewhere that no further series of Eggheads are to be made. Is that right?

Thanks mamyalynne. What a shame.
It is really, lots of younger viewers like a good quiz show.
Dear Old people,

We hate you so much we are stopping making the programmes you like AND not allowing over-75s to watch without a licence.

Lots of love,

BBC.
I'm hardly a younger viewer (!) but loved Eggheads - Yes, I'd heard/read that they're not making any more shows.
they were such smug b'stards though.....
I have met both Kevin Ashman and Daphne Fowler on a couple of occasions each and didn't find either of them smug. In Daphne's case it was at 15-to-1 Grand Finals where she was engaging to speak to beforehand and modest in victory afterwards.
Pity they couldn't just replace Jeremy Vine.
Awful though Vine is/was, anybody would have been an improvement on Dermot Murnaghan.
I'll give my stock answer when asked for a new presenter on any show.

Moira Stewart.
The show's had a good run, been around for 15 years. I like the concept, but feel that the question pace is a bit slow to be honest. Glad the Chase exists because of that.

But I hope they find an equivalent replacement, as opposed to only doing a show in the mould of, say, Lightning or even House of Games. Lightning feels too low-level quizzing, and while I love House of Games, it's more about the banter than the questions mostly.

I thought Jeremy vine was ok. I like television quizzes that don’t have hysterical studio audiences.
Also see John Humphries is retiring from Mastermind.I would like to see Russell Davies who does Brain of Britain on Radio given a try.
not a programme i warmed to, i have watched it in the past, but oh the team do come across as somewhat smug.. perhaps they aren't but i don't watch now. i don't like vine as a presenter at any rate.
Alan Carr should do mastermind:-)
We have always loved Eggheads but I suppose it is considered too classy nowadays for some. A shame.
alan carr for mastermind, heaven forbid.
I've heard Samira Ahmed is in the running for Mastermind, and Anne Robinson for Countdown.
For mastermind Michael Portillo would get my vote.
bhg 481 has the answer. I was very saddened to read that no further series are to be made. The new 'quiz shows' are puerile for the most part.
