In my opinion this shows his true genius. From Goon etc he puts in a truly chilling performance as the bad guy.

The perceived wisdom is that, like a lot of great actors, Sellars was so good at subsuming himself into other people, he eventually forgot who he was when he was off-stage.

Sounds about right Andy, if you can find it, give it a go, it is a stunning piece of work from both leads:

If anyone ever doubted Sellers' ability as an actor, they should spend 90 minutes of their lives watching Being There. He's spellbinding.

How Hoffman won Best Actor above Sellers is one of life's great mysteries.
likewise Tony Curtis in "The Boston Strangler". A stellar performance.
I watched a bit of the new Pink Panther , with Steve Martin , the other day .
Not a patch on the original -didnt find it funny , and gave up
I kept thinking about Peter Sellars

Some films / series should be left well alone .
The rehash is never any good
Was the goons funny ? The people doing it were enjoying it but funny mmmmm .
he could be a good actor when he could think of someone to imitate - for Being There, it was Stan Laurel. But he got badly up himself. (There's a film about him starring Geoffrey Rush which seems pretty accurate: announcing to his shocked family that he was off to marry Sophia Loren, for instance.) When he was making Casino Royale, he insisted on a huge paypacket and a Rolls Royce, insisted on hiring Orson Welles - and then fell out with him because Princess Margaret turned up on set and spoke to Welles more than Sellers. He refused to be filmed at the same time, so their casino scene had to be shot twice, once with each actor, Then he vanished and they had to patch his performance together from offcuts. He didn't have many friends left in the industry when he died.

Early on, though, when he was playing three roles in Doctor Strangelove and The Mouse that Roared, he was very good.
