It was hard not to read the thread about AB members and how lockdown has affected them without being deeply moved, especially by the tragic stories there. It got me wondering if there was a random act of kindness I could offer, maybe something to help lift spirits.

Of course that's difficult when I don't know anyone behind the avatar, but, still, it seems worth trying. I wanted to offer the following (to the first ten people who request something):

1. Happy to make a charity donation up to £25 on someone's behalf. Name of charity is all that's required in this case.

2. For those who want something more personal, Happy to also offer to send flowers, or a takeaway meal, or equivalent, but for that I'd clearly need an address. If nobody is comfortable with this then go with option 1, but for those who are willing to trust a random stranger then feel free to send contact details and request to the email address below. All personal information will be destroyed once I'm done with it. I can't hide anyway, it's not difficult to work out who I am from the "subtle" clues left around this site, and hopefully in this case that provides a little reassurance.

If Ab Editor feels this is inappropriate then of course delete it, but I feel relatively lucky at the moment and it seems a shame to sit here feeling sad at what others are going through while doing exactly nothing about it.

I don't need anything myself, Jim. Just want to say that is really lovely- and has lifted my spirits just by itself xx
That's a nice offer, heart warming in fact, and I hope people take you up on it.
Jim that is such a kind and touching offer. I don't need anything but your post is sending me to bed with a happy smile on my the face for the first time in a while. I'm not a religious person as such but bless you x
What a lovely gesture Jim, bless your heart.
What a wonderful thing to do. This will certainly lift spirits. You have a good heart.

Thanks all but at the moment I haven't done anything. But it's nice that even just posting it has brought a smile to a few.
you have done something Jim.
You'll never know how many people will have been comforted/cheered by your post unless they tell you.
Thank you.
Oh but Jim, you have done something - something very special ♥
Nice one, jim.
I think this is the first time I've seen anything like this on AB...what a lovely gesture.

I've been meaning to make a donation myself for several days now and your post has just pushed me into action. Thanks!
This is a lovely gesture Jim.
I'd like to nominate this, for gness's mum (haven't spoken to her, she may not agree).

good for you, jim. I'm also one of the lucky ones; I've made a couple of donations I won't bore anyone with, but there may very well be people in a lot more bother than me.
Thanks for that link Chris, Tobias is wonderful.
. . . and, assuming that the 'Lynne' whose name appears above mine in the donations list is you, Mamyalynne, thank YOU too for donating!

Well, if Gness wants another charity she can nominate something too.

1 down.
:-)
What a wonderful thing to do, Jim....but I'm not surprised... ;-)

Thank you too, Pixie. The Alzheimer's Society is an excellent cause. Like many I've seen and coped with what this illness does to the person and the family....thank you both...x
Good x I couldn't speak for you, of course, it just seemed appropriate xx
