On a day to day basis and despite the fact that my husband and I largely work from home, we have our own space which is quite important.
I am going to miss just being able to drop in on my parents and my grandmother for a cuppa and a chinwag. But they will feel that more than me because I am quite happy isolating. But I am worried about the isolation they might feel. We have set up a telephone rota so there is at least one call a day but not much more we can do.

These new rules actually don't affect me much, as I live on my own in a village and usually go for a long walk of 4-7 miles every day, which I will continue to do.
What I'm dreading is the weekly shop in the nearest Tesco, which I shall be braving on Thursday for my own and my elderly neighbour's food shop. Last week the checkout queues were densely packed.
How glad I am that I don't live in London any more - those packed tube trains!

I also like my own company but I am well aware that there are those who find isolation terribly hard. On my way to place flowers on my mother's grave, yesterday, I witnessed a car pull up at the kerb of a house about 50 yards ahead of me. A young woman got out, walked up the path and bent down. She then returned to her car, turned her back and leant against the car, facing the house. As I neared, I heard her mother/gran say, "Yes, but i'm getting awfully fed up of it now." Then as I passed the house, I saw that both women were crying. You could tell that the younger just wanted to hug the older, and the older really wanted to be hugged. Must admit it brought a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat.

I don't mind being alone too much...when it's my choice. I can laze around, or find things to do. Recent developments have left me feeling desperately lonely sometimes. I'm really not very sociable...and that can bite you in the bum sometimes. I also wonder when I'll be able to see my daughter...though we had a video call yesterday. More to follow I hope.
