Just watched Brian shaw lift 2028lbs about 2 inches off the ground as a yoke lift. How many Calories (kcal) do you think that lift took? Have a guess before looking it up, the answer will surprise you.

I am going the off piste line Very few , my guess would be no more than 20 short burst most of the calories would be spent immediately before preparing the muscles and getting pumped up.
the right answer will be whatever Mr Shaw says it is

By my calculation about 0.1kcal – but that is the added kinetic energy in the mass, not how much energy it took a man to lift the mass by 2 inches.
I think we need Jim360 here. Haven’t seen him around here for a while.
I would guess at very few calories used.

no need for Jim, I know the answer but just thought it would be interesting.

it's 1.32 kcal (kcal is what we normally call a Calorie) . I just looked at the effort and wondered about the energy and it's amazing how little it took. No wonder exercise doesn't help weight loss.
Before you all give up on exercise based on ToraToraTora’s post; running for 1 hour at 7.5mph (8 minute mile pace) will typically burn around 900 kcalories. Not an insignificant amount considering a normal daily total of 2500 kcalories (for an adult male).

exercise is terrific to keep you fit but you have to do a hell of a lot before it makes any difference to weight.
I have made a crude calculation that shows burning an extra 33 kcals/day (everyday) will result in weight loss of around 1kg.

So all things being equal, someone running at an 8 minute mile pace for 20 minutes/day (everyday) will be almost 10kg lighter than their non-running self.
Alternatively your non-running self could reduce their daily food intake by 300 kcals.
And that's why diet plays a part, TTT.
Exercise is no good for losing weight. If you eat a donut you have to do something ridicous like a twenty mile walk to burn off the cals. Best thing to do by far is just not eat the donut.
It's easier to keep active if you're not overweight. Nothing wrong with eating donuts...just don't the whole packet!
