I can't watch it...truly dreadful IMO. Teachers are not in the classroom to kill....be more to the point if more time and money was spent on identifying children with serious mental health issues and helping them overcome their problems.
A few of the teachers at my secondary school were crazy, giving them a gun would be a bad idea.

I am guessing that the US is much the same.

If you are a gunman prepared to walk into a classroom and start shooting pupils it's only fair that the teacher has been taught to shoot to kill to protect those pupils.
Anything less than shoot to kill just does not work.
// If you are a gunman prepared to walk...//

you mean ex-pupil dont you ?

amazingly we dont have a lot of those in the dear old England ...
but surely this starts with the pupil - you know if he doesnt do his homework well do what , dont make a thing of it - you may regret it

I mean gunman pedant, and this thread is not about dear old England.
There is no guarantee that this will work. Anyone wishing to re-enact a Columbine style mass murder will target the armed teachers first. And, if they take the said teachers by surprise, what then?
That sounds harsh discipline. Whatever happened to detention ?
The problem with people carrying guns is that they often give in to the temptation to use them - that applies to murderers or teachers.

We want less guns, not more!
Completely radio in my opinion, what next? arm the saucepans too? madness.
I guess if you have a President who shares the 'frontier' mentality of many of his countrymen in regard to guns, and he is hand in glove with the NRA, one of the richest and most powerful lobbying forces in American politics, then this is the sort of thinking you can expect to filter down into the classrooms.

I can't think that teaching tolerance and respect to children and young people can be delivered by an adult standing at the front of the class with a firearm on their hip.
One would hope ,whichever teacher opted to carry and use a firearm in a emergency situation to protect their charges they would conceal the weapon until required.
retrocop - // One would hope ,whichever teacher opted to carry and use a firearm in a emergency situation to protect their charges they would conceal the weapon until required. //

Valuable time would be lost locating and extracting a concealed weapon, one good reason why armed police officers have their guns on show and accessible at all times.

Why encourage a maniac to attack a class apparently unprotected by an armed teacher, who then has freedom to kill at will while sir or miss locates their gun and summons up the requisite adrenalin to aim and fire it?

I am of course playing devil's advocate here, I do not for one moment intend to defend the finer points of procedure in the concept of a teacher carrying a gun in a classroom.
perhaps they should have one of these on the teachers desk faving the door ready:

Certainly sends a message T !!!
Sorry you are not entirely correct. Believe me I had to do the 3 week body guard course (armed). Those in uniform had their tunics adapted to have velcro opening with mock buttons. Officers in plain clothes ( Royalty Protection and
Special Branch officers drew their weapons the same way from a concealed under coat position. That included the H&K MP5 Kurtz (short) carbine which was concealed and bought up to aim just as quickly.
The reason specialist officers carry overtly was because of the body armour and other accoutrements of their specialist operations. The tunic has all but gone these days.
The bodyguard training course was formulated by our friends in Bradbury Lines Hereford and they laughed at our 5 shot then 6 shot revolvers. 'Tart's Handbag Guns' We later got Glocks. No need for a teacher to overtly carry a handgun. They use a pancake holster .
retrocop - I am really not minded to debate the finer points of the ways in which teachers can carry live firearms in classrooms - the whole concept is morally repugnant.

Safeguarding young lives is morally repugnant by the look of it.
Baldric - // Safeguarding young lives is morally repugnant by the look of it. //

If you think so.

I don't personally, I just don't think teachers carrying guns is the way to do it.
