Films with Marie Antoinette - they dont really cut the actress's head off at the end ....
and Alien I mean it would never get made if they only wanted aliens
As Sandra Bullock in Gravity has been mentioned, I'll say when tears popped from her eyes in straight lines as if they'd been fired out instead of balling up on her eyeballs as they would have.
Many years ago, my friend and i were travelling on the bus to work our night shift. We were sat behind two oldish ladies and overheard the following conversation. "He's been shot, you know." "Who's been shot." "Ernie." "Ernie who?" "Emily's husband, Ernie." "Oh no, he was such a nice man." Of course we burst out laughing when we realised they were discussing the Bishops in Corrie as if they were talking about their next door neighbours.
No I don't think so Jno. Almost unique isn't unique. I was taught as Andy says, it's an absolute, and something is either unique or it's not.
It annoys the hell out of me as well. I heard somebody say on the TV today something was a"bit unique". Grrr!
Actually, the word "unique" is not restricted to meaning that there is only one of a kind in existence. It also denotes something, or person, or situation that is special, distinctive, etc.
I know. Just as almost 20 isn't 20, but it still makes perfect sense for a 19½-year-old to say it; there's nothing illogical or ungrammatical about it.
