Any recommendations for a strong weed killer - not the wee spray type you get in supermarkets. Am going to lay membrane and chip an area. Has been dug out but the dreaded dandelions are through again.

They have banned all the really good ones. One designed for knotweed might work if you dont want to plant anything there again. You can get a commercial strength glyphosate from amazon.

I keep telling the wife we need a day trip (booze cruise )to an Auchan Hypermarket in Calais. Although sodium chlorate was banned by EU directives you could buy tubs of the stuff in France. Likewise creosote.
Best weed killer I ever used.

Thanks folks, will have a look at the links - bound to be something out there that will kill the blighters.
White spirit and vinegar mix. If you want to get gnarly also add bleach to the mix
Try this before you spend money on anything else.

One litre white vinegar ( less than £1 from supermarket)
4 tablespoons of table salt
4 tablespoons of washing up liquid
Mix and shake

Squirt over your dandelions and watch them wither!
Last time my oh asked for a really strong weed killer he was asked if he had a "sprayers permit" so I suspect the stuff is out there but only certain people can get it.
Just get some soda crystals from any local chemist mix them in water can - the mix is legal and leathal to all weeds and plants so be careful
