Does anyone else get annoyed when a quiz contestant says they don't know something because of their age? Young woman on Chase just said that "Margaret Thatcher was out of office by the time I was born, I don't know these things" Grrr!!

I get really annoyed on the Chase occasionally when the rest of the team have generally gone down the middle and then some bottleless last contestant choose to play for £1 so they can share the pot. That is spineless, but yeah I think we can all learn enough about enough things so we have a smattering of basic understanding of where we are in the world, why we are in...

// What is your idea of useful history?//

yeah foo-dat! cue history quotes

Those who dont learn history are condemned to repeat it ( various - santana )

You are condemned ( again ) to repeat history ( again ) once as comedy and again as TRAGEDY ! ( s.o German - Goethe probably )

The lesson from history ? eez zat ( French geddit ) there are no lessons from History ( Maurois or Maurriac - cd be eezer apparently )

The more I see of men - zer better I like dogs!
mme de montespan - mistress of Louis XIV sozza not applicable
I just like snappy one liners
I used to think like kvalidir but Bradley Walsh often tells us that the right thing to do is to take the lower offer and get back to the team. Then they will have more chance of defeating the Chaser.
Just watching tonight's episode on catch-up.

An English teacher actually said, on national television, "Myself and my girlfriend are..." Thank goodness I had nothing heavy to throw at the screen!
Yes, I get very annoyed. How come I know about the Norman Conquest in that case? It's called General Knowledge, isn't it?
It's probably your ability to read, jourdain. That's just cheating, surely!
One of the contestants today when asked "Whose funeral in 1806 caused The Times to use a photograph for the first time?" answered 'Margaret Thatcher' Where on earth do they get these contestants from? And, as I've asked before on AB, don't they have to do an audition?
I am very suspicious of the veracity of this programme. When the contestant has answered a question the correct answer comes up BEFORE the Chaser gives their answer. Surely the Chaser should give their answer BEFORE the correct answer is shown to eliminate any suggestion of fraud.
Blimey, I had to earn about 1066 when I was at school.

Was that in maths, and the answer was 6 minutes past 11.
The Chaser's answer is locked in, Ron, and they can't change it. My issue re the veracity of this programme is that I believe in the final chase the Chasers occasionally give wrong answers on purpose.

I agree with Wullie..Chasers sometimes give wrong answer or dither to waste time so the whole outcome is not such a bad car crash scenario !!
The simple fact of the matter is that with all world knowledge to hand via the web 24 hours a day people don't see the need/are too lazy/stupid to read a book and even if they do on the odd occasion, their ability to retain stuff has gone.

Short answer, lazy thickos.
I am gobsmacked at times by the general knowledge..or lack of !
I don't mind the lack of knowledge some show, even if its due to their age as an excuse. I do have a distaste for those taking the minus offer though even if considered an advantage to get back for the final chase.

George Graham! I get annoyed when I get a football question wrong... I bloomin' knew it was Howard Wilkinson. Grrr I said it before the options appeared.
if it were me on the chase; "look here you lot..what I put in the pot.. I take home ..Capisce ? " lol
I think some are being too judgemental. People have different skills. Not everyone is blessed with a high IQ
ummmm.. it is bordering on unbelievable at times..Margaret Thatcher death for example...
Indeed, ummmm, but don't let it ruin your day. :-)
ummmm, having a high IQ is no good in this type of quiz, what you need is knowledge.
What was the answer to "Whose funeral in 1806 caused The Times to use a photograph for the first time?"

We were too busy scoffing to hear the correct answer.
