As so many actors, comedians and presenters have been to some sort of art or drama school that includes dance training and most 'pop' stars and singers have had dance lessons the show would be full of sports people - they have a huge advantage because of their stamina, fitness and commitment to training. Sports people also have the necessary competitive streak and can deal with 'nerves' better, on the whole.
From the very first series there has been celebs with prior dance training, it would be impossible to have a level playing field in Strictly.

I agree with hc. The judges remit is to judge the dance off on that single dance alone. It matters not a jot how well the couples have danced in the past or, indeed, their potential.
The vagaries of the voting public cannot be understated and play their full part in the evolution of each Strictly series. Not for the first time have the judges bemoaned the choice of the vote in producing the 2 lowest scoring couples. I just wish Darcey didn't always look like she has just had a puppy put to sleep! At the end of the day is it just pure entertainment, none dies and it is the individual's choice to watch it or not.

It is skewed competition wise, although Ore won last year and I don't think he had any dance experience.
It does help raise the level of skill level of some of the dances though and makes for some much more spectacular routines. I know Danny Mac was meant to have had some experience last year but I loved watching him dance. I think having dancers will no prior experience only could take some of the excitement out of it, that unless by chance there are one who turn out to be natural dancers, we could have a whole series of quite low scoring and low skill level dances with the odd more entertaining comedy ones. I think a series full of Charlottes, Simons etc... could lose viewers.

I love the diversity of levels of competence in the contestants, it makes it even more interesting to watch.
Some of the 'also rans' are having such a wonderful time - look at Susan she's positively living the dream, her joy radiates off the screen.
As long as public voting is an element we'll always have shockers like we did this weekend - yes, I vote, but do I think hard enough about it?
