to Radio 2? Sent a text to Steve Wright to ask if it would be possible to hear a song to the end without him talking over it? Doubtful he'll mention it, but it's Sue from Oldham

I somehow doubt that your email will get a mention! If you don't use 'SW's (as defined by Sarah Kennedy), you're likely to be ignored ;-)

I really miss The Dark Lord in his old late-night slot on Radio 2. I used to love sending him emails, in the knowledge that the sillier they were the greater would be the chance of getting them read out.
All the DJs talk over part of a record to put you off you recording it.
if only he'd stop singing over them too
...and I wish he'd tell you who was singing. He rarely does.

I agree with all, and Chris, the best late night DJ was James H Reeve. Check him out on Youtube ;)

I used to enjoy Steve Wright and his characters, in his younger days.
Now he is just downright annoying.

The habit of not back-announcing records is seriously irritating, and all DJ's are guilty of it. I remember Simon Bates playing a record every day for about a week, and I liked it from the first play, and on the Friday he played it twice in succession and never said what it was!!! AAAAAARRRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!

I remember Julie Burchill writing in the NME decades ago about Steve Wright talking over the end of every record he plays, she thought he was in the employ of the PRS, ensuring that no recording is ever done of records on his show - proof that he has always done it.

But never forget, it's 'The Big Show', so obviously he is far more important than any transient pop group who grace the gaps between his worldly wisdom for the masses.
I'll give you most of that Mr Hughes, but la Burchill criticizing someone for being a bit gobby cannot go unchallenged. :)

I concur entirely, it was a case of Mr Pot being called out by Ms Kettle.

But to be fair, at least Ms Burchill's pointless ramblings are confined to the printed page, probably on account of - as John Peel told me - her voice sounds like it belongs to something from another planet.
Andy, not true that all DJs fail to back-announce records - Ken Bruce ALWAYS does, and I think he takes pride in it. Don't think he has a lot of time for the awful Steve Wright, especially his hugely irritating singing over the songs, his 'serious jockin'', and his failure to say who he has just played.

I stand corrected - thanks.
