Sir Ken's one of the old school of comedians; he doesn't need to do vulgarity or suggestiveness to get a laugh. That alone is worth a knighthood.
changed channel
TO him and not away from him

His gag book must be bigger than the Encyclopaedia Brittanica.
Do you think the Queen will get a word in at his investiture?

He won't let HM go until the last tram has gone, Captain.
We all like different folk don't we, Baz.....I've never liked Ken Dodd and my worst working nightmare was when the head called me into his office....

Gness! he thrilled........I think I may be getting Ken Dodd into school for a visit......Get as many of the staff into Diddymen costumes as you can!

I was really popular in the staffroom...... :-(
Funnily enough bookbinder the only time I saw him was at one of the piers in Blackpool (when I was a nipper) and when we came out the last tram HAD gone and we had to walk back to our digs. :))
On one occasion when he appeared at the Bradford Alhambra he overran by an hour.
We saw him in Guildford a few years ago; started about 8pm and finished around 1am.
What made me say that, Captain, was that I've heard about his stage shows in which he (apparently) finished his act, waved 'goodnight', and the audience started to get up and go. Doddy ran back on to the stage, and said, 'wait a minute, I haven't finished!', and he went on so late that some people really did miss their last tram (or bus) home!
Went to see him in Llandudno some years ago, he did finish until about 1am, we didn't care we were laughing non stop.
Sir Ken Dodd.
"I don't owe the "Inland Revenue" a penny.......I live by the seaside".
"My shows are educational, I heard a bloke say that'll teach me when he left last night".
he did finish = he didn't finish.
He must have (along with the late Bob Monkhouse - who I didn't like) the fastest comedy brain you can have; he can come up with a joke at every change of topic.

Yes , i've heard that he really did give his audience more than their monies worth
He comes to Whitley Bay every year for two days. Always packed out. Notorious for seriously overrunning.
His other tax joke was:

Income tax was introduced by William Pitt in 1799. 2d in the £. I thought it still was.
