There was a discussion on here recentIy about stupid answers on quiz shows - weII I think the girI on Tipping Point Iast night takes the biscuit! Question was who organised the first package tour in 1841 - she said British Airways!

Actually originated in Family Fortunes with Les Dennis.

Part of Les's chat show schtick back in the day was to recount a series of answers given to questions - of which this was one of a well-worn series.

Others included - 'Name something green in the garden?' - 'My shed.'

I know - unparalleled hours of 80's 'mirth' to be mined - he may even have put them in a book, but don't quote me on that.

I often think it's a bit unfair to mock quiz show answers as we all have our own areas of knowledge, but I must admit this one was a peach ;-)

It is a bit unfair, I agree.

It's easy to sit on your sofa at home and shout at the TV, but a studio is very intimidating place, and the rabbit / headlights interface can easily occur.

So to be fair, it's not stupidity, it's mind-freeze and panic.
